Day 17 - Night Time
This is quite a poignant pic as it was taken on a trip to Portugal just after the lockdown restrictions eased up. Little did we know when we were there that shortly after we got home Amanda would be diagnosed with a very aggressive, brian tumor. She is still having treatment and still going through it all, but it just shows you just never know what is around the corner. Live every minute to the fullest.
Yesterday we did about 15,000 steps so covered quite a bit of distance, so the plan was to get a city tour bus today and see where it took us. When we enquired though it was about €99 for the 3 of us it looked like it only really went into the centre that we covered on foot yesterday. Also, there was some kind of fun run so a lot of the roads were closed off. Instead, we decided to do our own thing.
We had a brilliant day today, managed to pack loads in. We set off into the city and had a coffee on an open-top bus/coffee shop so we had great views of the whole of the park and could watch the start of the run.
One thing to note though is that most of the shops are closed on a Sunday so maybe plan your itinerary around this as you would be disappointed if you planned to buy clothes or gifts etc and Sunday was your last day.
|I think we got every form of transport today, we are getting quite used to the tram, bus and subway. Alexa has heard about somewhere that sold 'spaghetti ice cream' that was supposed to be nice so we set off looking for it whilst we saw more of the sights. We ended up stumbling upon the place just in time for a light lunch, so ordered two dishes between us (pasta and salad) and then the ice cream to share. It was actually just enough to fill you up without leaving you feeling bloated. I forgot to take pics of the mains so had to just take one of the menu lol. the spaghetti ice cream was vanilla, hazelnut with roasted hazelnuts, hazelnut brittle bits and some egg liqueur (I'm guessing something like advocat). REALLY nice and not sickly.
After lunch, we headed over to Pratta which was the funfair area. There were loads of rides but I think there was only Fi that was up for going on anything. I only really like roller coasters, but after the first one, felt a bit queazy and Lex isn't really that keen on funfairs. Me and Fi went on a Liedown roller coaster and then we all went on the large Feris wheel. The girls both got a free glass of Rose as it was mothers day here today. Result ! Lex gave me hers as she isn't really a big drinker unless it's on a big night out.
We made the decision not to go back to the hotel and get changed for dinner as we would prob end up having a nap and not coming back out lol. By the time we had got back to the hotel, it was about 8pm anyway.
We had all said we would like fish for dinner on our last night and we managed to find a place across from where we had eaten before that did a fish platter for 2, but we got them to do it for the 3 of us. There were lots of different fish, A whole Seabass, Salmon Pieces, Scallops, Large Prawns, Cod, Octopus and served with a dressed salad and buttered potatoes. Really lovely and it cost us about £35 each altogether including drinks. A lovely meal to finish the holiday off with and definitely worth the money.
By the time we had eaten and got back to the hotel, it was still only 9:45 but when you are sightseeing and walking about it's nice to have an early night. We still did 16,000 steps today even with the trams etc.
