The 5 Second Rule

Updated: Apr 8, 2023

When I woke up I really wasn't feeling like going to work and considered rearranging the appointment for another day. Bella was lay on the pillows next to my head and I just wand to stay in bed with her and have cuddles. :-( I then reminded myself that making appointments is the worst part of my job and so every appointment is precious and shouldn't be canceled or postponed or it just means more days need to be spent making appointments when I already have one on a plate. So I put into practice the Mel Robins 5-second rule and while I was laying in bed I counted down from 5, then as soon as I got to 1 I sprung out of bed. Your subconscious mind will always try and talk you out of doing anything that you are not really comfortable with. You have approx 6 seconds to make a move towards doing something before it kicks in and gives you hundreds of reasons why you shouldn't do it. So by counting down from 5 and taking action you interrupt that pattern and take action before your subconscious saboteur can kick in.

Once I was up, I jumped in the shower and that initial feeling was gone and I just carried on getting ready for work. Made myself a quick vanilla protein shake and a sot of Supergreens o get my morning off to a good start. Before I knew it I was in the car and on my way to Kirkham. The ride was lovely and it was nice and sunny all the way.

As soon as I entered Serendipity House I was greeted with a little chocolate bunny :-) See! I would have missed out on that if I had stayed in bed feeling fed up for now reason. Next thing Kettle was on and me and Heidi were catching up on all the latest happenings in the village with c customers ad they came in. This is the part of the job I love, chatting with customers, discussing what's doing well, what's selling in other shops etc.

We did all the Christmas orders and a couple of everyday top ups and then it was time to hit the roads again and head back home. The drive goes really quickly when I am listening to music. I currently have an obsession with Ben Platt (who played the lead in Dear Evan Hansen. His album Sing to me instead is a really easy listen and it's been my 'go to' music choice for a couple of weeks now. If you haven't heard it click the link to give it a stream ;-)

One of my friends Amanda has started doing Tropic and asked me if I would product test the men's skincare range. It just so happens I had run out of moisturiser yesterday so it was perfect timing to give some new skincare a go. The cleaner is a volcanic ash and bamboo powder that you add a bit of water to tso it forms a kind of black paste, then massage into the skin. You wash it off with a face cloth then ad your moisturiser. My first impressions are that it seems pretty good as it felt like it was getting all the grease and dirt out of my skin and the moisturiser goes a long way and leave the skin feeling like it has a protective barrier. Keep you posted on the final verdict.

If you fancy a new skincare routine, message my friend Amanda and she will hook you up with the products that are right for you at a very reasonable price ;-)
