South Carolina - Day 4

Updated: Jul 5

***The interent seems to be playing up so it won't let me add pics at the moment so I will add them to the posts once I get a stable connection.

I woke up really early about 4:30am and then realised he time so went back to sleep. The next thing I knew it was 8:30 and I needed to get ready for the lake, so I jumped in the shower and then quickly packed up my stuff.

We loaded up the car and then were on our way. It was about a 2 hour drive to the lake house which was in Sente (I think).

I loved seeing all the different types of buildings and houses as they look just like you see on the films and are all quite individual. Even the streets my cousin Lesley refers to as Cookie Cutter streets, still seem all individual to me. I guess it's what you get used to.

When we arrived there were already a few people at the lake house as Sandy had gone a couple of days ago to get things ready for everyone. Cindy and Keith were there as well as Courtney & Whitney and Amber and Andrew and all their little ones. It's so nice seeing families spend time together as a big group as it's not something we do in he UK anymore. We used to do it a lot more when I was younger but now everyone has grown up we only ever get together as a family at weddings and more often these days funerals.

Throughout the day more and more people arrived including neighbours that lived nearby. Sandy cooked lots of burgers and hotdogs on the BBQ and there were plenty of snacks to help yourself. Another thing that is very different from the UK is that when they have family get-togethers it's more about the social side of things and the food and not al about getting drunk out of your mind. The UK always seem to base everything around alcohol and the end goal is to be drunk. I mean they had beers as well as lots of other drinks but it was a lot more social and less about getting drunk. This is a much nicer social occasion than the UK version.

I went out on the Jetski's with Chelsea after food and the water was so calm. I guess it's a lot different on a lake as I had only ever been on a jetski on holidays in the sea where you have the waves crashing about making the water really choppy.

As soon as we had dried off from the Jetskis, Sandy took a few of us out on the boat around the lake. I feel so privileged to be able to do all these things and don't take any of it for granted. While I was going around the lake and on the jetski's, I practised gratitude and thanked the universe for the opportunities I was enjoying. It is so easy to always ber chasing after the next thing you wan to achieve of the next thing you want to own. Often we forget to be present in the moment and enjoy the here and now.

Lucas gave me a ride on the back of his Harley Davidson Bike which is another first for me. The bike was really big and weighed a lot so it felt really safe even at speed. He was a good driver and I knew I was in safe hands.

Once we got back from the boat trip and more snacks we took some chairs down to the end of the dock to watch the sunset. I don't think I would ever get bored of that view. Lesley said they do it religiously every night and I can totallt see why. Having that view at the bottom of the garden would just make you feel so lucky to be alive.

After the sunset people started to make their way home, or to their hotel nearby etc. I felt a bit guilty as I had a bedroom that could accomodate 3 people and I culd have eaily slept om the sofa to allow more people to stay over.

Another day done and it seems to be flying by so quickly. I am trying to take everything in as before I know it, all this will be another distant memory, Which is another reason I like to do a blog so I can look back over it and remember the good times Ive had.
