Wiltshire - Day 1 - Kemble

Updated: Feb 26, 2023

Woke up by default at 5am even though I could have lay in since I'm on my jolly's to go visit my friend Sharron who lives in Wiltshire. I finished off my admin from yesterday and then had breakfast and took Bella for a walk. I can't explain why but I had an overwhelming feeling of happiness as I was walking around the local area when most people were still asleep. I just felt as though everything was coming together and my life was on the path it was meant to be. I seem to have the correct balance between work, home life, the tavern and I am waking up every day with a positive outlook.

Took Bella down to mums and had a toasted hot cross bun and coffee with her before setting off to the train station. I always give myself an extra 30 minutes for any journey to allow for unexpected eventualities that may crop up and cause delays.

When I booked my ticket I booked it via "split my fare" who get you a cheaper ticket by splitting your journey into sectors instead of booking the whole journey as one ticket. So my outbound tickets from Manchester to Kemble looked like this..

Me being me I obviously didn't bother to read the long Email that came with the tickets and explained the timings and the fact you stayed on the train for sector two etc. Instead, I just added the tickets to my apple wallet and went merrily on my way. :-/

So as far as I was concerned I had my first ticket and needed to get off ta Stoke on Trent, which I did.

Quickly looking round for my next train in 1 minute's time, going to Birmingham New Street, only to realise It was in fact the train that I had just got off that was pulling away!

Anyway, I am not one to overreact or panic in this kind of situation so I just looked on the train app to see what time the next train was from Stoke to Birmingham and then onwards to Kemble. I had a 25-minute wait in Stoke and then another 35 -minutes in Birmingham for the connection. All told I would get into Kemble an hour later than planned. I told Sharron the update and it worked out quite well as she said it gave her time to go to the supermarket. No Drama. I used the time productively and read a few more chapters of my book :-)

Trains were on time so I arrived into Kemble at 5:45pm and Sharron was there to meet me in her VW Campervan (well jealous lol). It was only a short drive to Sharrons and then a quick tour of the house and I got changed into my PJ's to settle in for the night.

Sharron made us a lovely dinner, Salmon, seam veg, fresh spaghetti, and a cheese and basil sauce. We opened he bottle of 0% Rose wine I brought with me so it felt like we were having a drink with dinner. I did say Sharron could have a normal wine if she wanted to but she really wasn't bothered about drinking either.

I forgot to take a pic of the bloody dinner, fumin! But I'm sure you will cope lol. I did manage to remember to take one of the wine glasses (gripping photography at it's best eh? ;-) )

We chatted for hours, catching up on what had happened in the time we'd spent apart over the year. It's always like it was just yesterday that we spoke. We both have similar interests and work ethics etc so always have lots to talk about.

We made a plan to head over to Stonehenge tomorrow afternoon in the campervan and camp there too for a bit of an adventure. I've never camped in a VW campervan so it will be a new experience for me. I've also never been to stone henge so another first and something that's in my "Life List" book that I will be able to cross off. The time flew by and we headed up to bed around 11:30pm. I will remember to take more pics tomorrow :-)
