Review: Birds Eye "Fish" Cakes

Updated: Jul 22, 2022

So I'm not sure what I was expecting Birds Eye is a brand I trust I thought that their fish cakes would be the best you could get. I had only ever had fresh fish cakes from the Co-Op before and they had been pretty nice. The picture on the box made them look very tempting so I decided to have some for my lunch as I love fish and they appeared all nice and gold brown with what I hoped would be fish and mashed potato inside.

The uncooked fishcake looked okay so I had high hopes and popped a few in the air fryer.

12 minutes later and they were done and nice and golden brown just like the pics so I couldn't wait to tuck in.

When I cut them open , Inside was what can only be described as a kind of grey mush.

It wasn't even mashed potato it was more like Sandra on the production line had mashed some spuds and not drained the water out, cos they were all runny. As for them being "fish"cakes, I seriously think Captain Birds Eye needs to take a serious look at his recipe. The fish content might be 45% but instead of using dried potato and all that other rubbish, just use mashed potato for pete's sake not all this god awful potato powder and 42 random artificial things to create MASH. Definitely won't be buying them again, rank !

Overall Rating:-

Just don't overcomplicate stuff, stick to fish, mash and a bit of seasoning and makybe don't mince the fish so much so you csan tell there is actual fish in there!
