Rainy Day on Sundays....

Updated: Jul 24, 2023

...used to get me down. The weather used to play a big part in my mental health and when I would wake up to the rain outside I would feel in a low mood. I would then spend the day feeling fed up unable to shake it. All that seems to have changed and I now don't allow the weather to dictate the kind of day I am going to head. Granted Bella doesn't like to go out in the rain, but to be fair it's not my favourite thing to do either. Instead now when it's raining I think of all the things I can get done indoors. I would usually not even want to venture out to the shop but I decided to get dressed and nip to Tesco and buy the few bits I needed for a recipe I had seen on Tiktok.

Before I go into the cake-making update, I need to vent about Tesco!! The supermarket was pretty busy and after grabbing my few items I proceeded to the checkout with my basket. It seems that 50% of the checkout space is self-serve! The other half is full of queues of people waiting, because there are not enough checkouts. It really winds me up now that more and more we are being forced to use self-serve at supermarkets. It's no longer even just an option it's becoming the only way to get out of the place before you age another year. A trained checkout person is bound to be quicker than George who hasn't got his specs on and can't even find the barcode to scan it and, "do I put the things on this side or that one Mary?" If the queues weren't so long I would have waited to be served but instead I ended up going to the self-serve, as I am sure is their plan all along. I was in the BASKET self-serve behind two people WITH A TROLEY! piled up like they were doing a shop to prepare for the end of the world. Things like this really wind me up, YES this is a shorter queue but that's because baskets are quick to scan, if you now take up a till for half an hour with your weekly BIG SHOP then it's not going to be quicker is it? Obviously being British I said nothing and just tutted and puffed and blew the whole time I was behind them. Regularly looking at their trolley then up at the BASKET sign above them. It did nothing to change the situation but made me feel like I had silently complained. Greg who was manning the self-scan area might have noticed Terry and Shirley with their overflowing trolley in the wrong queue but he was too busy updating his status on Facebook and didn't look up from his phone the whole time.

Anyhoo, after scanning my shopping and packing it away, oh and helping George with his unbarcoded cucumber (that's not a euphemism), I told Sandra I was going on my break and wouldn't be doing another shift until next week. She looked at me like I was simple, and I said "Sorry I got confused and thought for a minute I WORKED HERE". With that I exited stage left feeling quite pleased with myself :-)

Anyway back to this cake, it was a recipe from a woman making an orange blender cake and you just throw everything in the food processor and then into a cake tin. It was really easy to follow and the cake came out perfect. The only thing I would do differently next time is not add the juice of a full orange for the glaze as it was too runny and there was far too much of it. I would probably use half the amount. The cake was so moist (I hate that word but I can't think of another lol) and tasty and the glaze gave it a zing. she does a lemon one too but adds yoghurt to that, so will have to give that a try too, but I would defo make this one again. I made a video of it that just needs editing and then I will post it along with the recipe.

My Phone is all fully changed over to Talkmobile now and was pretty painless. Its a shame the same can't be said for the home broadband! I tried to swap over to Three who have a new broadband that uses mobile rather than a landline so you no longer need a landline. Your landline number becomes a mobile number so thought that would be perfect since I don't even have a home phone installed. Spent 2 hours talking to someone on their online chat facility and got nowhere. At one point I even asked "are you a bot?" because they kept asking me questions I had already answered and asking me to log in to the router when I had said I could not even get onto the IP address she gave me. I did lose my rag a bit and say "are you smoking crack?" at one point when she kept asking me the to complete actions I had already told her were not possible :-/ Ooops.

Then caught up on my blog posts. Next, it was time to try and learn Audacity so that I can put together my first radio show. I have been asked to do the first one as a pre-record, I am guessing so they can have a listen to it first and make sure it's okay? I think I have got hte general idea of the software but I need to set up a zoom or something so I can run through the settings and how others do their shows. Also have some questions like how long is the slot and how often do they want the jingle put in etc.

Spent the rest of the afternoon having a lazy day and chilling out watching some TV and then had a few games on the PS4 with Fi. I've found an activity that I really want us to do that I know will be right up Fi's street called Zombie Uprising and it's a 3-hour event on different levels so I want to get it booked as the next te they have available is end of October.

Watched Love Island in bed (yes I am now an avid bloody viewer lol).
