Out at Sea

Updated: Jul 14, 2022

Woke up reasonably early had some toast and coffee then got showered in the campsite shower block. It’s been ages since I’ve been properly camping so it was a novel experience. Threw on some swim shorts and a T-shirt then called at Land & Sea for a quick drink before meeting Luke at the boatyard (or Marina if you wanna be posh lol).

I've never been on a boat when it's "launched" before you basically get it ready and then ring through to someone who then comes with a tractor and takes you to the water's edge backward and you reverse off the trailer. Me & Sammy stood about not being very much use at all while Karl & Kelly got the boat ready. They seemed to have a system so it felt better to stay out of it.

Quite soon into the trip I pretty much had the family dynamics worked out. Karl is the 'Dad' of the group and likes everything to run to a plan, which doesn't always work well when you have Kelly & Sammy who leave it until the last minute to decide they both need the loo. :-) Kelly tries to be sensible one who's gone all posh but now and then lets it slip and goes all Oldham again lol. Sammy became known as Worse Case Wendy due to her ability to conjur up the worse thing that could happen in any given situation. Example:- (this didn't happen by the way it's just for dramatisation purposes lol) :-

Karl: "well take the boat out tomorrow"

Sammy: "Oh god I hope the boat doesn't sink, cos if we are out at sea we'll get eaten by sharks and they won't even find the bodies"

Karl: "Okay Sammy you stay here then"

Sammy: "I'm not staying on my own. I could get attacked by an axe murderer and my body be buried in the woods"

*Karl just shakes his head and carries on with the plan.

Once we were on the boat we went out to sea and it just felt like being in Spain or somewhere as it was a lovely day, really sunny and gorgeous views of the beach. We even got to see sea lions sunbathing on the rocks (the photo doesn't do it justice).

After having a bite to eat and a few drinks onboard Luke let me have a go on his Jet Ski. I thought it would hurt my wrist and ankle but it was really smooth. I didn't stay on it for long though as the last thing I wanted to happen was to capsize it with everyone watching lol. Plus I was also conscious of the cost of fuel so didn't want to stay on too long when he had filled it up that morning.

I even got to drive the boat which is another thing I can tick off in my Life List. I drove it quite slow and you could feel the waves and the wind pushing you to the side. It got easier to control it when you went faster but it also seem to crash down harder on the waves, which I was worried would damage the boat. Karl didn't seem to mind and ent a lot faster than me, but that's fine when it's his boat, but I wouldn't want to be responsible for any damage.

I had a dip in the sea for about 5 mins. Karl had said it was about 4 feet deep where we had stopped so I slide off the back of the boat into the water, hoping not to hit the bottom. No chance of that it was about 7ft deep and I sank like a stone lol.

I'm writing this after the even (so I know what happens tomorrow lol) and as most of the day is the ride home, I will put the pics from the evening on tomorrows post :-)
