Iceland Day 4 - Home & Top Tips

Updated: Mar 25, 2023

Woke up at 7am and had breakfast to fill us up, then finished packing and waited in the lobby for the transfer minibus. The bus was on time and took us to the coach station to get onto the main coach to the airport. The drive was over in no time and then it was the moment of truth if my case would be under the allowance. It was 21kg so panic over.

Quick photo Op in front of some cool artwork in the airport and then it was time to board the flight.

Thank you Iceland you have been amazing and there are so many pics I have yet to go through. The people are so friendly and are always willing to help and even go the extra mile.

We landed in Gatwick and hen got the shuttle over to the South Terminal and then got a train to Clapham Junction and then just jumped in an uber cos it was raining and we couldn't be bothered with a bus with my busted case :-/

Layla made us both a burger for dinner and we finished watching the series "swarm". I have to say it's one of the weirdest things I have watched and what a stupid ending (don't bother).

TOP TIPS

I thought I would end this post with some Top Tips if you are thinking of traveling to Iceland.

Firstly don't bother changing money. Everywhere takes card and even the public transport is app based so you don't need cash for that either. If you have banking or a credit c srd with an app you csn see how much everything cost in realy time after you paid.

|If you are planning to get about under your own steam and use the buses, then you need to downlaod this app. It's really straight forward you just buy a ticket and then when you are ready to use it (when you bus is approaching) you click ACTIVATE and it then gives you a QR code that you present to a scannner when you get on he bus. The QR code lasts for an hour so you can get on and off as many buses as you like in that hour. So don't Activate the ticket until you know what bus you are getting and it is pulling up at your stop or you waste some of the time you have on the ticket.

If you want to get about he streets and not wait for buses there are electric scooters dotted all about downtown and the surrounding areas. There are two main companies one with red scooters (zolo) which is th one we used and then another with turquoise scooters (hopp). They both do the same job just different brands. You will need to download the relevant app, so I would suggest downloading these two plu Klappid before you go just to save time and phone data use while you are there.

Speaking of phone data, if you have a contract that includes data, it just uses it the same as in the UK so is included in your package. Text messages are quite expenseive so suggest using Whatsapp of faceboo messenger while you are away. I tell my mum everytime I go away not to text but she still does lol. I just reply on whatsapp so she then replies to me on that.

On the subject of expensive, food and in Iceland is not cheap! If you are on Bed & Breakfast I sugguest filling up in the morning to negate the need to buy lunch (unless you are Layla who needs food every 2 hours lol). The water from the taps is drinkable and is the exact same stuff hey put in bottles water, it's so cold and refreshing so a great item to take with you is one of those water bottles that keeps it cold for about 12 hours. You can just fill them up anywhere as nowhere charges for water.

I went with the SHO brand becuase they re great qulaity and not as expensive as Chilly ones. They are even good to have in the UK. My mum said its the best present Ive bought er as she can have it with her next to the bed at night and have ice cold water when she wakes up with a dry mouth in the night. They come in all different style from plain colours to patterned (those are more expensive). Definitely a good investment though if you go our for day trips or drive for work.

Here is the LINK if you want to get one.

Finally, I booked out trip through a travel agent (Elaine at Tavern Travel) and having worked in travel myself I would highly recomend doing so. Yes you can book things these days online yourself but Elaine packaged everythign together for us so it eas all ABTA protected and any problems we had I coudl just message her and she sorted it. She even checked us in before we travelled and sent me the boarding passes so everythign was done for us. It's no more expensive to use her as she doesn't charge a fee, in fact she even got us a deal on our Blue Lagoon passes and we got the premium package upgrade.
