Iceland - Day 2

Layla is as first up and went out exploring while I had an extra hour in bed. She came back and woke me up at 8:30 then we went down to breakfast. It was a continental-style breakfast so we had bread rolls with cheese and salad as well as coffee and pastries.

After breakfast we went back up to the room for a bit as we weren't being picked up until 1pm (or so we thought). I rang the number at about 12pm to reconfirm out pick up and was told the whale watching had been cancelled.

Instead of letting it get us down we just did a few google searches and then asked reception to mark a few places on the map so we could work out our own itinerary. So we headed down towards the harbour using trusty google maps and the Klappid app to buy the bus tickets. We got chatting to an old woman at the bus stip who told us to always buy senior citizen tickets as the driver can't see what ticket you bought you just scan the QR code and get on. We didn't need telling twice lol. The tickets last an hour once you buy them and you can just keep getting on and off buses until they expire.

Once we got to the harbour our first stop was the Saga museum where you walk through a guides audio Viking exhibition then at the end you get to play dress up which me and Layla loved lol. The history part wasn't really my thing but I always think it's good to expand your knowledge whatever it may be and I know Layla loves Vikings.

I found the Viking game that I played with Sharron but it wasn't as fancy and just had stones. I think I could probably knock sommat like that up myself when I get home rather than pay a fortune for one. I might try and get some black and white stones and then hve it so the fabric pulls together like a drawstring to make it into a pouch, to take the game away on hols etc.

Next stop we walked for about 10 mins to get an Icelandic hotdog from the world-famous hotdog stand as hey are supposed to be the best. The lady at he stand told us they are made of 80% lamb, 15% beef and 5% pork. I try to avoid lamb as I feel mean but when in Rome (okay we're in Iceland) but I had to try one. It just tased like a regular hotdog to be fair and hair crispy onions and raw onions as well as two types of mustard. One of which was warm out of a pot and sweet.

Next we headed to the bus station again and got a bus to Perlan Iceland Wonders which was a big domed building you could see for miles so we got the bus then walked the rest of the way.

When we got inside we bought tickets for the whole thing and then wandered around. There was quite a lot of stuff that was just Meh but the 3 main things that I really liked were the Ice Cave, the lava show and the Arora show. The ice cave was a manmade cave that was as cold as it could be if it was a real one, it had lights inside the snow so you could see around and had small corridors and everything was ice. There was even a throne that was like glass it was so shiny.

After that, we went into the lava show which was just mesmerising and I could have watched it for ages. It showed all the lava erupting and coming down the mountain over 6 months. There were loads of pictures on the way in, I managed to add myself to one of them lol.

After this was the Arora show but we weren't allowed to take pics or videos in there. It was a huge 360 degree screen and you sat in seats leaning back a bit and it too you on a journey looking at the various Arora's on different planets and explained how they are formed.

When we came out it was freezing cold and snowing so Layla used my scalf to keep her head warm. We were going to rent elelctric scooter but Laylas phone was dead so we just walked into town instead.

We eventually hired electric scooters to get back to the hotel once both our phones were charged. The snow was coming down fast but it was great on the scooters cutting about town lol. Couldn't get a pic on the bikes as it hard enough to drive with both hands but I have one from the daytime.

Once we got into downtown we googled nice fish restaurants and found The Old Iceland but when we got there it was full, with people waiting so we headed to another on the list called Harrys.

The food was lovely, I had scallops then salmon and a glass of mango juice. Afer we'd eaten and our phones were both charged we got two scooters and headed back to the hotel.

Busy day so straight to bed.
