Woke up at 4am and left out of bed as my phone alarm was playing "Boys wear pink" by Rodrick Hall. I forgot Dante was in bed and when Layla came jumping out of bed I thought she was joining me to dance but she was telling me to turn out off so I didn't wake him up lol. Oops.
We both had a cup of tea then jumped in the shower and got ready. Layla ordered us an Uber to Zclapham Junction as it was only £10 between us to the station and then £8 for the train to Gatwick. Much better than paying £30 each for an Uber direct to the Airport.
Taxi was on time and we just had a short wait for the train, but everything went pretty smoothly. By the time we had done our bag drop and gone through security (which wasn't so bad) we literally only had time to grab a meal deal from Boots for breakfast. Not the cooked one we had planned but it's all we had time for.
I got stung at the gate as my cabin bag would not fit in the daft measuring thing which is way smaller than any other airline as my wheelie case has always been okay on any other flight. So ended up having to pay £39.99. I wouldn't mind I don't even know why I brought it because my big case only weighed 14kg. So on the way back I am going to pack my small case then put it into the big one as it will probably still be under the allocated 23kg we are allowed. PPFTTT
Got onboard and we were both sat a row apart for the outbound flight so I made a start on
my new book. A Letter to my younger self
it seems really good as it keeps my attention because it's all short chapters and each one is advice a celeb would give to their younger self. If you fancy a read of it? Here is the LINK By the time I had read a few chapters and had a little nap we were already coming in to land at Iceland. I managed to get a nice pic just as we were coming in.
We landed on time but it took quite a while to get through passport control as they only had 2 out of the 3 desks open and the guy on one desk seemed to want to know how long everyone was staying for and which hotel if they were vegan, you know the usual chit chat, before stamping their passports. I had already seen from the plane window my case coming down the conveyor belt onto the baggage train thing and could see it was damanged. Great !
When I got it off the luggage carrousel I could see that the whole of one of the wheels had been snapped off. Not an easy thing to drag about and I'm gutted cos this is the 2nd case I have collected stickers on and it's ended up being damanged by the airport so I've had to start again.
Once we got through we headed outside but couldn't see an EasyJet rep so made a call to the lovely Elaine who advised us where to go. We found a bus called Flybus that I recognized from out trips and just asked him if her was going to out hotel. He said he needed to see something with the operator's details but in the end, just let us on. We headed to a bus terminal where we had to change to another but to take us to the hotel. We were panicing a bit at this point as it was now 1pm and we were being picked up from our hotel for our first trip at 2:30pm. Again Elaine came to the rescue and let them know we might be a few minutes late.
Anyway we managed to get to the hotel by 2:15pm and luckily were the only ones checking in. We just had time to dump our cases in the room and then we were being picked up outside the hotel to go to The Blue Lagoon. It was about an hours drive there and so I read some more of my book to pass the time.
We got to The Blue Lagoon and the first thing that hit you as you got off he coach was the smell of sulphur. I was expecting it to be rammed-packed and too busy but they had it really organised and you got a bracelet on arrival that you used as a pass for various things as well as ordering anything extras you might want. We had booked the premium package so got a bathrobe, free drink at the bar and 3 different face masks.
Quick change into our bathrobes then we made our way down to the lagoon entrance. You hang your robe up on a hook in the main area and can either bravely walk out in the winter wind and get in the water or you can go the easy way and enter the water inside. Guess which one we did lol.
It was such a unique experience, you had the ice-cold wind on your face but were in really hot water. We had a lovely green juice smoothy and you just get your bracelet scanned as people have different coloured ones depending on the package they booked. We had the 3 different facemasks an again you scan your bracelet and he gives you. scoop of the first mask and tells you how long to leave it on and so on until you have done all 3.
After we had done everything we got showered and changed and then went outside to check he bus times. It was all very easy and we got a bus to the main coach place then on to another back to the hotel. We didn't even bother to go back to the hotel and just went straight out for food to a Vietnamese place.
I also had the chicken Penang with jasmine rice which was lovely but forgot to take a bloody pic. lol. We just had time after eating to get changed and then we were being picked up to go and watch the Northern lights. hey picked us up at 8:30pm to take us to the coach station again and then everyone was transferred to a large coach. On the way to see the lights our guide explained that they aren't actually as green as they appear on most pics unless you have a great camera., most are photoshopped. They are probably more a grey light and its always 50/50 chance of seeing them. Not what you want to hear as you get to the viewing place. We stayed at the place we parked up for about an hour, but it was freezing and we managed to get a couple of pics, but not the amazing green lights you often see. Better than nothing though.
Today has been a JAM-packed day and we were glad to get back to the hotel and get in bed. As I am typing this we have already lived another day so I have all that to blog about tomorrow lol.
G'night.
