Woke up this morning feeling motivated to tackle the monstrosity that is my front garden. It was helped by the fact that Andy Lee said he was free to pop down with his mini chainsaw and give me a hand.
So this is how the garden started out. To say it has overgrown is an understatement. I don't know why I made the same mistake again in buying the same plants that I had dug up about 8 years ago lol. When I bought these they looked nice and tropical and small, but I hadn't learned my lesson that I should have put them in pots to contain the size :-/
The plant is to cut them right back so they are more manageable to try and dig out. Once out I will split them into about 4 and plant one of the 1/4's in a large pot. I am going top do that with both of them and even dig out the palm that you can't see that is at the back of the garden and do the same with this and put it into a pot. I also want to take up all the purple slate and re-use that in the back. The longer-term plan (funds allowing) is to flatten inside this mini wall and then get Astroturf put down and just have pots so that it is really low maintenance.
So his was the little gadget we used to bring these monsters down to size. It was from Amazon and was £79.99 if it looks like something you might need just click the Amazon link in red to go straight to the product. It's cordless and came with two batteries too so one could be charging while we used it. It was defo a big job but this little fella was actually better for the job than the big chainsaw he had as it kept getting stuff stuck in the chain on the big one. After an hour or so of hacking away at them we ended up with a garden when I could actually see out of my window and across the street for a change.
Also, let more light in and another benefit is it won't keep tripping my Ring Doorbell with the movement sensor when it's blowing about in the wind.
The next step was to try and get them both dug up. One of my facebook friends had messaged to say that she wanted part of both of them for her garden so brought a big fork up with her and her daughter to help dig it out. Sadly things didn't quite go to plan.
We managed to loosen the first one and started to feel it shift but the fork ended up snapping lol
Oops! We might need two string men with shovels lol.
Well, at least part of it has been done and the main thing is, it's been started. I always say something didn't get in a mess overnight so don't stress about fixing it overnight.
I will tackle the cutting back a bit more tomorrow.
On a nother note Shelly and her mum are up for coming on the Tavern on Tour Benidorm Trip :-)
Fancy coming?
See the video below for details:-
There has already been lots of interest so it should be a great trip and people won't feel on their own as we are going to put together an itinerary for people so they know where we will be when and can dip in and out as they wish.
