Here Goes Nothing

Okay so got up full of the joys of July and drove myself over to Harrogate. This is why I like my book because I probably wouldn't have done very much this weekend and instead I'm heading off to Harrogate to do an abseil.

On the way there Michelle rang to say they were almost there and how far away was I? For some reason I had it in my head that my slot was booked for 2:15pm and I had to be there for 2pm but they were getting there for 1:30pm as their slot was 1:45pm and I was meant to be straight after them at 2pm. I did my best to get there as quick as possible and it was just the way that every country lane had a tractor in front or a learner driver of pension couple of a leisurely outing.

Any hoo as it happens fate was on my side and I got there at 1:44pm and went straight to the hotel to register.

The girls were already kitted up and ready to go up. I told the lady at check in that I would go back outside and film them coming down and then do a handover with the phone etc for them to film me.

I literally didn't have time to get worried about it as no sooner had I arrived I was filling in registration forms, filming their descent, and then I was heading up in the life to get kitted out myself.

There was a short wait on the roof as we had to maintain social distancing so only the two people abseiling together could be near the end of the roof. Luckily for me, a couple were together behind me so said I could go on my own so they could come down the wall together as there were two ropes down the wall.

The scariest part was getting yourself over the wall onto this thin piece of wood and then having faith in the ropes to hold your weight as you leaned back to be at a right angle to the wall. Once I started going down and got the hang of the ropes, I decided to bounce off the wall rather than just walking like I'd seen the girls do. It just looked a bit more fun and easier to some extent. I stopped halfway down as I realised I still had my mask on which was making the breathing a bit hard, whit the adrenalin etc. So stopped and whipped it off and let it fall. That felt much better.

By the time I had got into the swing of it I was at the bottom. The guy at the bottom said "You can tell you've done that before", I said "I haven't its my first time" to which he replied very surprised "With that technique?" I laughed and said "I've seen Die Hard a few times that's all LOL"

We were all on high after and was great to think that this time yesterday I wasn't doing this. How things can change and it's almost like I put it out to the universe that I wanted to do it and the situation came my way. Even got myself a little certificate to add my folder.

Well we had a quick glass of fizz in a nearby bar to celebrate and then is back home to finish the rest of my lazy Saturday off :-)

I thought I would capture the day in a little video for Youtube, so here it is....
