Okay so technically it's not DIY as that stands for 'do it yourself' and I'm not doing any of it myself I've got a guy coming to do all my jobs.
I was looking at my Instagram Grid this morning and compared to these organised and aesthetically pleasing grids so some people have mine is so eclectic and random, probably a lot like my brain and thoughts are lol. I don't tend to have a specific theme I stick to I just throw on the stuff that's in my head that day or views I see etc. I definitely think if I was a kid growing up now I would have been identified as being on the spectrum and be labeled as ADHD or something as I do find it hard to focus on something or stick to things for long periods of time. I think The Virtual Tavern is probably the project I have managed to stick with for the longest. That is probably because there is so much variety in the stuff we do that I get to indulge my whims and try stuff out etc. I can also express my artistic side (no I didn't say autistic) as I get to design the posters for events and the mugs for the Tour etc.
I was chatting with Fi at Alton Towers as she is currently studying for her job and the part she is on at the moment is Belbins team roles/dynamics and how there are different roles within a team. She said straight away she knew which one I was, she identified me as the role of "Plant".
This is definitely me, I am good at coming up with ideas but not the best at being the "finisher" I tend to start things then get bored and want to move on to the next idea that pops into my head.
That's why it's always good to have different dynamics within a team and I think we have that in The Tavern. Now that the team are able to take on different roles and be more involved it works so much better.
David arrived as promised at 9:30am to start doing my DIY jobs around the house. I've had a list building up over the past 12 months and the bigger the list gets the more stressed I feel. So today he has managed to swap one of my internal doors for one that Jay gave me probably 2 years ago that has just been sat in the shed. It's got glass at the top so let's so much more light into the lounge as it comes in through the patio doors. The lounge feels so much lighter now.
That in itself will save me some money on having to keep putting the lights on in the lounge because the room feels dark. With the costs of household bills, people are looking at all kinds of ways to reduce their outgoings. I like to save money on the 'essentials' so that I can spend my money on treats and days out etc instead.
He's also fitted a letterbox in my front composite door. I'm not quite sure why at the time of ordering it I thought it would be a good idea not to have one and to have an external postbox instead, but here we are. Anyhoo it's no longer a problem as he has fitted one so my post can just come straight into the porch. like most normal people have lol. It will just be nice to come home and open the door and the post be on the mat instead of having to faff around opening the postbox in the rain only to find half my mail is wet through :-/ Anything I can do to make life easier I am up for as life's complicated enough without adding extra steps to your day that you don't need.
He swapped the showerhead in the main bathroom for a new one. It had stopped working properly and was coming out all randomly and not from all the holes as well as spilling out over the top. That's another job fixed and now I have two showers available again for when people stay. I kept with the same 'rainfall' shower head thing as I like the coverage better on those.
The ensuite loo is still causing problems as it needs a new part so that will probably get done another day, but for nopw he's taken the lid off the cistern so I can at least use it and just manually pull the thing up to flush it.
The final Job was to put a hook on the back door so that when I open it the wind can't get behind it and slam it shut. This scares poor Bella to death bless her and she won't eat her food in the kitchen if the door is open.
I feel a nice sense of achievement now that I have a lot of these jobs completed.
I've been seeing people on Tiktok and Facebook using candles covered by a terracotta plant pot to heat their rooms. It's coming to something when people can't afford to heat their homes properly. It's ridiculous when people are working full time and still having to try to look at ways to save money so they can be warm this winter. People are already talking about having to choose between Heating and Eating this winter. I don't normally vote in elections but I will DEFINITELY be voting LABOUR at the next general election. This current government seems to be all about helping the rich get richer and creating an even bigger welfare gap between those at the top and those at the bottom.
