Woke up at about 7am but then went back to sleep, then got up again at about 9:30am and jumped in the shower. We had some cereal and then set off to the airport as we were going over to the south island of New Zealand as Kelly said it was a good place to go out.
It was only a 40 min flight to Christchurch and by the time we’d had the “in-flight meal” (a bag of crisp and a glass of water lol, it was time to land. We went straight to the Hertz Car Hire rental desk as Kelly had already sorted out a family type car for us for out road trip.
We went straight to the Ibis that Kelly had sorted before we got there, and checked in then just dumped our bags and went for a look around. Christchurch seems like and old England kind of place, with quaint small buildings and streets and lots of traditional looking pubs that served a selection of locally brewed beers and real ales (so Phil loved it). We had lunch first in a food court where there was lots of different choice. We all went for Chinese which was pretty cheap as the exchange rate against the pound is really low at the moment so we are on the better side for a change as everything is a third of the price in dollars.
Bought some postcards so that we could send some from each place we visit whilst in New Zealand and had a look around the town. We were going to go on the trams but it was about $15 and most of the places were closed or closing, so we just walked around to the art museum instead. Took a few photo’s in the museum and even of some of the pieces which we probably weren’t supposed to but hey ho. Some of the “art” pieces were a bit pants, one of them looked like a large mound of polar bear shit (it was white). I think if you do something really off the wall in the art world, all the pompous people rave about it.
After a bit of a look around we called at a liquor store and got some beers and crisp etc then went back to the hotel for a chill out and watched a bit of TV.
Later on we went for dinner at Wagamamas, I had chicken curry n coconut noodle soup then for dessert, white chocolate n ginger cheesecake Followed by Sake to drink which was served how you are ment to drink it, hot in a pot container with a small kind of pot shot glass to drink it from.
After we’d eaten we strolled back to the Ibis and watched Halloween. Reasonably early night, got to bed about 12am.
