Around the World Trip - Day 39 - 9th Feb 2009 – Sydney

Updated: Dec 16, 2022

We both didn’t wake up until about 1pm today and the two guys that were sharing with us were still asleep. They woke up just a bit after us and chatted for a bit, they are both from Ireland and over here looking for work. We got up and went for breakfast (well lunch in fairness) at a place round the corner called “Burgerlicious” that made “our famous burgers” so we thought we’d give it a go as we were both in the mood for some stodge. I ordered the Jalapenaburger which came with bacon, swiss cheese and sour cream and jalapeno relish on top, chips and salad. You needed a step ladder to get on top of the burger when it came. I couldn’t manage all mine and had to leave some.

We headed back to the hostel to get changed into walking boots etc so that we were already sorted for the bridge climb and could just head over to the harbour. I checked my emails quickly to see if I had anything from them confirming where we had to meet etc. it’s a good job I did as when I read the email it said you had to take a breathalyser and if you were 0.05% or more over you couldn’t climb and wouldn’t get your money back. We figured we would probably still have alcohol in our system from last night and didn’t want to risk losing our money, so I gave them a ring and managed to change it to tomorrow. I used the “I only booked it yesterday and thought I’d booked it for tomorrow but I’ve just read your email and I mustn’t have changed my calendar on my watch when we landed” excuse. Thankfully the very helpful Sasha who answered the phone, changed it for us no problem (as the website said you couldn’t change within 7 days, phew crisis averted).

Phil went to have a wander around the area while I had a sleep and then uploaded a load of my pictures onto Facebook to try and get up to date. We got changed and headed over to Darling Harbour at about 7.30pm for something to eat. The weather wasn’t too great and kept raining every now and then, seems like the rain keeps following us. Hopefully, it will be a bit dryer tomorrow for the bridge walk at 17:35 but we shall see.

Walked right around the harbour as there are loads of different types of restaurants all the way round. Eventually, we settled for a place called “The waterfront grill” as they had a special on rump steak, $25.95 with chips and salad and a glass of wine or beer. We changed ours for coke so we didn’t have any booze un us for tomorrow just in case. The steak was gorgeous and we both had it with a roasted garlic and truffle butter. I would say it was probably the best meal we’ve had so far as the steak was nice n thick and hardly any fat at all and was cooked perfect. With our belly’s full we walked back to our hostel for an early night.
