Woke up at 8am and got a hearty breakfast for the day as there isn’t really anything to snaffle from the restaurant at this hotel. As soon as we’d filled out boots we packed up our big bags and then stuck enough clothes for two night into our rucksacks so we didn’t have loads of stuff to carry about. We had already arranged with the hotel to leave our bags until we came back in two days.
We hopped on the local bus and then a 15-minute walk to the station. While we were waiting to board we had a look around the local Indian food place to see if we could get some stuff to see us through the train journey as it was 7 hours. We bought two pasty-type things the size of a samosa, and one that was a ball covered in sesame seeds, we had no idea what they were but they looked nice.
We looked around for customs forms but couldn’t find any anywhere so just joined the queue to board the train as the office that were meant to provide them seemed to be shut. A few people didn’t have them so we weren’t too worried, eventually Sam spotted some on one of the window sills. Completed our forms while we were in the queue and then boarded the train and found our allocated seats.
Once we were on board and comfortable we tucked into our Indian snacks. The first one was filled with sardine and onion with a tomato sauce and was still a bit warm, the second was filled with a kind of Bombay potato and was very nice. The ball thing that I thought would be prawn or something was actually a weird very elastic pastry substance that tasted like hubba bubba chewing gum or something and was filled with a kind of toasted coconut. It was very nice though, and I’m glad I got to that one last and not in the middle of the others lol.
The train was very old and rickety and seemed to travel at a very slow speed (no wonder it took 7 hours). There were also lots of what looked like small cockroaches crawling all over the place and by the end of the trip I was started to itch all over as you would catch one crawling over your foot or something now and then BBRRrrrrrr. The Indian looking woman behind us seemed to feel the need to have her phone playing Indian songs throughout the journey rather than keeping it to themselves (If I’d wanted to listen to it I’d of stuck my ipod on thanks). She also had about 6 kids all under 4 who ran riot the whole journey and kept tapping you on the arm now and then when you weren’t looking. The tapping game soon grows tiresome, its almost as annoying as starting a game of hide n peep with the kid in front of you on a 10 hours flight, then wishing you hadn’t lol. Every now and then we would think she was getting up to get off as she gathered all the sprogs together and made her way to the middle of the carriage, but she was just going to the loo so the relief was short lived.
Nobody seemed to sit in their assigned seat, which meant a big game of seat swapping whenever we stopped at a station and more people boarded. It’s quite simply you look at the number on your ticket and you sit in that seat, problem solved, but that seemed to be too easy (even Phil joined in this game as he doesn’t like following rules either).
We eventually arrived at Kuala Lumpur Central station (or KLCC as it’s known). Map in hand we started to make our way on (flip flopped) foot to the hotel as it wasn’t supposed to be far. It was about 11pm as we were walking through the city and it seemed to be quite alive with activity and people on the streets, music coming from the various bars. When we eventually found the hotel we believed to be ours it looked extremely posh, which should of rang alarm balls straight away. Anyway in we drudged with short, n flip flops and tried to check in. The woman asked if it was 3 rooms, as she searched her computer for our booking. She clearly didn’t have our booking so we asked if we were in the Traders Hotel, to which she explained that we were in the sister hotel and gave us directions to ours. So we flip flopped out into the night and headed to our hotel.
We eventually got to ours at around 12.15am, by which time my flips were flopping and my flops were flipping (I can usually only flip n drag or flop n slide at the best of times and can rarely mange to get both feet doing it). We checked in and dragged ourselves up to our room. This was definitely the best room we’d had so far as it had a big desk area with laptop access and spare power sockets etc. The bathroom was huge and had a big sliding glass door that could be used to close off the separate shower are and the end of the bath or cover part of the bath so you could slash around. The free toiletries were very nice too, which is always the yard stick by which all hotel rooms are judged lol.
After a quick once over of the food menu me and Sam (which I know isn’t grammatically correct and should be Sam and I or something but its how I speak) decided to order some room service as it wasn’t too expensive. Phil decided to have a cup-soup and some rivita’s as he’s too tight to give a door a bang never mind pay for room service when he has free food in his bag (however un-appetising lol). We both ordered Thai chicken curry for main, I had cheesecake for dessert and sam had key-lime pie (see pics).
Shortly after stuffing our faces we retired to bed, it was my turn on the sofa bed, which was actually a very comfy sofa with an extra section they brought up when they came to make up the bed.
