Had a bit of sleep in today and got up at 8am (believe me that’s a sleep in on this trip lol). Spent a bit of time catching up on my blog and editing my photos while Phil was asleep, then we went down to breakfast. There was a really good selection so we filled up so we wouldn’t need lunch lol. I had cereal, juice, hot breakfast of very mixed combination and a bowl of fruit. The girls joined us at about 10.15am as they were knackered.
We got the subway to China Town and managed to buy lots of souvenirs. I bought a couple of gold Buddha and a lucky cat and some things to hang around the house. Also picked up some postcards so just need stamps when we find the post office. I am definitely going to have to send a box of stuff home as my bag is getting really heavy lol.
After shopping we got another tube to Little India for something to eat. Singapore seems to be a fusion of Indian and Chinese cultures and people so there are pockets of different people clustered in certain areas.
We found a side street Indian place that was packed with locals so thought that was a good recommendation and the prices were good too. We all decided to have the set menu and it came out on a big tray with a banana leaf on the bottom, no plates or cutlery and you had to eat with your hands. I sort of knew about this area as we have plenty of different races at home. I’m sure it’s something about you eat only with your right hand cos you wipe your arse with your left or something. The banana leaf had the rice and chicken piled in the middle with a small tub of curry sauce and then small amounts of Mint yoghurt with cucumber (raita) and pickle on the side as well as popadoms. The food was really nice although my chicken was on the drumstick (what I call scrag end chicken lol) but I guess when your choice of cutlery is “arse hand or not” you can’t be too fussy. They went round the place topping up more rice for those who wanted it and we all left pretty full for about a fiver.
We had a look round the market area near by and I bought a small tripod for my camera that was about the size of your hand (if you had no fingers). It screwed into the bottom of your camera and could be used to take epics without the shaky hand and also to use line up for a pic and take on timer (very handy for when I’m on my own). The legs also extended out quite a bit so it ended up being quite big. Also bought some tiger balm as Rachel had raved about it when she had been to Thailand as it apparently can be used for all kinds of things. I read the label which said it was good for muscle aches and pains, head aches, blocked noses, and flatulence??? The instructions said for external use only and to rub on the affected area. Not sure where you would rub it externally to stop flatulence but maybe I should give Phil a bucket full.
Rachel had to head off at 5pm to get her flight to New Zealand as she was starting her conservation project in 2 days so we headed back to the hotel for her to get her stuff and say our goodbyes (until we met up again in New Zealand).
Sam and Phil went to the supermarket to get crisps and drink etc for the train journey tomorrow. When they get back we all shared the 4 packs of noodles that me and Phil had brought with us and then watched some films. We watched men in black, which I hadn’t seen before and then Chuck and Larry get married staring Adam Sandler, both were pretty good. After that we decided to get some sleep ready for the early start tomorrow.
