Woke up to another grey and wet day in Tokyo. Had breakfast a bit earlier so that we I had more chance to get bread rolls etc for lunch as they keep topping them up then. Managed to get 4 bread rolls, 2 jams and 4 packets of seaweed strips, RESULT!
After breakfast we headed over to Shinjuku Gyoen Garden, which was about 15 minutes, walk from out hotel. It was really grey when we first got there but by about mid-day, it brightened up and we managed to get some better photos.
As it had brightened up and the fog/cloud had lifted we decided to head back over to the Government building so that we could get some views of the city from up above. I bought a couple of packets of Japanese sweets to take home for the family to try (only thing I can bloody afford from here).
After a few pics we jumped on the subway to Asakusa to visit the Sensoji Temple and the Asakusajinja Shrine which were near the tube station. Had a look around the many stalls that lined the main street, even though we couldn’t afford to buy anything. Even the tacky crap is expensive here, a cheap naff key ring is 5000 yen (£5). They must get good wages in Japan as they all seem to be buying it without batting an eyelid. We managed to copper up and buy a kind of local style sweet dumpling type thing filled with Japanese Apricot jam for 100 yen.
After the market we got back on the tube and headed over to Ginza station where the Sony building was. We spent a while in the building as it was split over 4 floors and had all the latest gadgets and technology in there so we were like big kids, recording silly videos on the cameras that displayed on big screens etc. Once we were bored we headed back home.
We got off the tube at Shinjuku station and made a quick stop back up the Government building to take some night shots of the city all lit up. On the way back Phil treated us both to dinner, which cost £10 each at one of the department stores. Oh yeah forgot to say he found £90 yesterday sticking out of a machine in the amusements arcade and said that dinner was one him tonight. We both had Sushi and Phil got a beer and I got a small Sake to try.
Got to be up early tomorrow to, hopefully (weather permitting) go and see Mount Fuji and take a trip on the bullet train.
