Crete - Day 4

Updated: May 13, 2023

Woke up to glorious sunshine AT LAST! I would have been gutted if I had come on holiday and the weather had been just as bad as at home. The main reason you come on a beach holiday is to get a tan. The position of our studios is just perfect, we are literally on the beach with tavernas and shops on our doorstep. There is a supermarket just up the steps for everything we need for the room. You can hop on a bus/train thing that takes you up through the village and back and can just get on and off where you like.

Me and Kirsty went down to our local place underneath us for breakfast. I didn't want anything big so had a fruit smoothie and fried eggs on toast. It was still too much for me.

The sun was absolutely roasting hot so we went onto the beach for the day. The sunbeds were €9 for 2 beds and you got a bottle of water each. We thought we were going to get them for free with us staying at the studios but we still got charged. We didn't actually tell him though where we were staying so we might have to mention it next time cos it will end up being expensive every day. There's a lovely little cove on our beach if you want to just be in the shade watching the sea.

I'm not a big sunbather so had to keep getting in the sea which felt like I was doing cold water swimming or an ice bath. Once you were numb from the neck down it wasn't too bad :-/ The beach is nice and quiet and there aren't a lot of people here yet as it is really early in the season.

I think Kirst has a mixture of too much sun and too much Raki today as she didn't feel up to coming out for dinner with us and instead had an early night. You know when she isn't well when she isn't in the mood for food bless her.

We thought we would try the Sailor Bar next door for dinner for a bit of a change as i always looks empty and is a new place. After having the food we realised why it is always empty. No impressed. Not only did we not enjoy the food we also had to do the walk of shame through Akrojali (if that's how you spell it) which is the restaurant underneath our studios that you have to walk through to get anywhere. He didn't look impressed that we ae next door, but we wanted to make sure we gave all the other places a try or how would we know if we had missed a hidden gem somewhere?

I had prawn saganaki but it didn't feel like fresh prawns they felt a bit reheated. Andrea had the pork belly but it was just a pork skewer whe it arrived. She wasn't impressed. Mum said her chicken one was okay. As with the other places they tried to ply us with Raki at the end of the meal but we settled for the fruit plate and cakes that came with it. Bali feels like what it used to be like when you went to Spain years ago where they give you little extras at the end of your meal. It's not like that anymore and it's nice to feel like you are in a traditional holiday destination for a change. There are no English pubs and bars so you feel like you are in Greece not in Blackpool with sun.

After our "meal" we headed back up to our Terrace (and avoided eye contact with Georgios as we walked through Akrojiali lol).

I had an early night as I was goosed. I'm loving getting a full 7 hours of sleep while I am away. I'm not even getting up early for a change either.
