Bali Trip - Day 17 - Homeward Bound

Updated: Nov 2, 2022

Okay so I am having to this post as the 1st Nov or all my dates will be wrong. Because Bali was 7 hours in front I sort of lost a day but I can't stand for my dates to not follow on properly. So this post will cover Monday going into Tuesday.

Woke up at 7am and made the mistake of doing a morning "cheek sneak" that turned out to be fluid and not air. Oh dear, I quickly stripped the bed and but the sheets in the pillow case for housekeeping when they come later :-/

This was to be the first of many toilet visits during the day. I nipped down for breakfast as I hadn't eaten all day yesterday. Had some fruit for vitamins but most of the menu

was indonesian savoury foods like noodles, stir fry veg etc.

After breakfast headed straight back to the room so I could be near the loo. I always figure its better out than in, if you have some kind of bug it's beter to get it out and then I will just take some imodium before heading off to the airport. Nobody wants to be on a flight with the squits :-/

Tried to catch up n my blog in the room but the WiFi wasn't great so had to just tick to writing the text in my notes app and then copy and pasting it into Wix when the WiFi would permit. I can add pics later.

I checked out of my room at 12pm and got a taxi straight to the airport, whic took about 15 miniutes. I cold have hung around but the pool or something as the flight wasn't until 16:25 but I'd rather just get there and know I'm in plenty of time and ditch my case. Driving through Kuta I could see how very westernised is was and was so glad I hadn't come to Bali and stayed here. I enjoyed the more authentic Bali with the locals and no tourists or big chain restaurants etc. as soon as you see a Starbucks or McDonald's at a destination you know it has already lost its authentic charm. I don't see the point in going on holiday somewhere and only wanting to eat at places you can enjoy back home. Surely the whole point of travelling is to experience the country, It's culture and all it has to offer?

Check in and security was really straight forward and I was through in plenty of time.

Once through I ordered some food for lunch. I opted for a kinda east meets west combo as wasn't sure what it would be like. I ordered the Sate Ayam which I knew to be chicken satay, however chicken was probably a very loose description for what rocked up on the skewers. Someone, somewhere is probably missing a cat :-/ The thing that came with it looked like nice fluffy dumpling, sadly alass it was some kinda rice thing and not at all tasty, so I left that and went with the back up plan of cheesy chips. Sadly not melted cheese but the luminous orange squirty cheese stuff, but needs must when you are hungry.

Waited at the gate to board whilst updated notes as I couldn't get on the wifi to do my blog.

The first flight to Kuala Lumpur was only about 3 hours so over and done with by tyhe time you had eaten your food.

There ewas then a bit of a wait at Kuala Lumpur while we waited for the next flight to Heathrow. I also discovered that when I am tired, people annoy me lol. I noticed a lot of iritating people doing the most stupid of things so I have started to put together a travellers guide of how now to be a dick whilst travelling lol. I will do this as a seperate post ;-)

Once on board the next flight I was sat at a window seat 32a to be exact. As there seemed to be less nd less people boarding and I still had two empty seats at the side of me, I started to thing that maybe, just maybe I would get an empty seat the side of me, which would be nice.

As boarding looked closed to closing I could see the couple across the isle on a row of 3 seats, all full, eyeing up my row. Oh no sunny Jim, I thought, if anyone is bagging this bonus its gonna be me. Anyhoo the second we were up inthe air and I knew nobody was joining us and the seat belt liught was off, the seat arms were up and I was lay across all 3 with 3 pillows and 2 blankets. Jim and Doris were't happy ;-) Not giving two hoots I enjoyed a nice sleep for some of the flight in the comfort of my little cocoon. Result !

Anyway at some point during the flight on Monday turned into Tuesday so there will be a continuation post for the same date that covers the next part of this day :-/
