Hardly slept last night cos some of the volunteers are leaving this weekend so last judge was prob alt their last night to let their hair down. I didn’t mind as it’s not every night or anything so can put up with it for one night. This is our humble abode, complete with mosquito nets over our mattresses. So don't expect 5-star luxury if you do this project as it's more about back to basics. I like our little tree house though its nice and tucked away compared to the others on ground level.
Had breakfast then got gear’s up for our first dive. Everything went so well, we didn’t need to wear wetsuits as it was only about 8 metres which is good as they can be quite restrictive and so it was one less thing to worry about. I used my own fins and mask as o want to start getting used to them Used their sea boots which were so much easier so I’m going to invest in some when I get home.
The dive was a shore dive so we just walked into the sea with our gear on and then put on our fins. Again so much easier when you can reach the bottom. Once our fins were on we swam out about5 metres on our backs to where we had dropped the structures yesterday. Then we did a decent and knelt on the floor. Once everyone was down we took off our fins and handed them to one of the guides. We worked with a buddy and then assembled the structures on top of others so the legs created spaces between the one below for fish to swim under. I was with Mathieu who seemed to know his stuff. It was like walking on the moon or something when you had your fins off and were carrying the concrete structures from one place to another on the sea bed.
The structures were put in place pretty quickly and then we spent the rest of our air just doing a fun dive to look at everything. I couldn't get my buoyancy right even after emptying my lungs fully and just taking short breaths in. Zack said when we got back to shore that I probably need 6kg next time instead of 5kg.
The heavens opened after we'd had lunch so we had a little nap after the dive cos we were both knackered.
Once the rain stopped some of the volunteers were building more structures, I went and joined some of the other volunteers do a beach clean with the local kids.
Dinner was earlier today as a lot of people who have finished are leaving tonight and tomorrow so they move it forward so you can do your own thing. We ate at about 6pm and then we were in bed by 7:15pm to try and get a good nights sleep before getting up at 5:30am tomorrow to get a taxi to the docks for our boat over to Nusa Panida island where we will be spending our days off this week.
The guys on site are great they organised our car and the boat tickets for us, so all we had to do was get up and go. We packed our small bags to take with us and left our big cases and most of our stuff in our treehouse.
This is our outside shower. It doesn;t look much but it's amazing being under the stars at night and just a pipe of lukewarm water to shower in. So refreshing..
