I didn't really sleep much as I was constantly tucking in the mosquito net to make sure it was wedged under my mattress, so I didn't get bitten. I woke up at about 2am local time and then couldn't get back to sleep. Layla woke up not long after me and then we started chatting and then before we knew it, it was 5:30am and we were getting up to catch the sunrise.
Took so many pictures of the sunrise but this one is my favourite.
We had a lovely walk along the beach and the dogs from our camp followed us all the way down the beach as if they were being protective and keeping guard bless em.
Also got a couple of nice ones of Layla with a silhouette against the sun.
We are going to book to go out with the fishermen in a boat one morning to see the sur=nrise fromt he water which is mean to be amazing and the watre is so calm that early in the day too.
When we got back from our walk it was time for breakfast. Just what we wanted too lots of fresh fruit, fried plantain, scrambled eggs and toast. I tried my avocado coffee too and it was lovely.
Afer breakfast we had our orienation to explain wheat we would be doing. We start off making structures that will become the artificial coral. the first stage is to dig four round holes in a square patten that will form the legs. Once you have dug out the holes you fill them with a concrete mix you then make a cross with concrete that joins the 4 legs togther and then add two piece of metal into the cross to make it more rigid. you then make a square base on toop so it has a flat surface. From the on ytou can use your aristic flair. The idea is that you mske something that has either tunnels in for fish to use as shelter/cover fro predictors or you make rough surfaces for he coral spurs to attach to.
I will try and capture more of the process when I get chance but it's hard when your hands are full of concrete and soil to take pics.
After the morning session, we had lunch which was really nice again. There was chicken strips, corn fritters, stir fried veg and boiled rice with the option of sambal sauce which has a nice kick to it. There was also this kind of peanut brittle that had been fried which was really tasty.
After lunch we both went for a snorkel in the sea looking for fish, but the visibility wasn't great so you couldn't see much. One of the volunteers said its best to go early in the morning when the sea is calm as you can see more.
When we got back from snorkeling at about 1:45 I went for a sleep as I haven't slept properly since we got here. I asked Layla to make my excuses so I could have a proper sleep and miss the afternoon session to try and catch up. It's all very laid bakc here so they weren't bothered.
I felt much better when I woke up (just in time for dinner lol). After dinner we got chatting to some of the other volunteers and a girl from the Netherlands asked if we wanted to join them on the sunrise fishermans trip tomorrow morning. We had already got this on our list so added ourselves on for the morning.
One of the guys Joel seemed cool and went and got a local drink called Irak (might not be spelt like that) from his room and gave us all shots. Apparently you can also have it with popping candy? I only had one as wanted to be fresh for tomorrow.
We had an early night and was in bed by about 10pm so we could be up at 5am in the morning.
