We were both awake at about 5am as we wanted to see the sunrise at about 5:50am so had a quick coffee and went up to the rooftop pool. I think we were in the wrong location to see the proper sunrise but it was nice enough. I'm sure we will get to see plenty on this trip.
We were so lucky for our floating breakfast because the pool was completely empty so we managed to get some nice pics without lots of people in them. Our breakfast was gorgeous and great start to our day. The good thing about it is that you are given a choice of dishes to choose when you book it. We both had toasted English muffin with poached egg and spinach. Mine had maple syrup bacon and Layla's had smoked salmon, we also had fresh fruit salad, chia seed pudding and a selection of danish pastries. Not forgetting a glass of fresh juice each. We both had watermelon, and Layla had hers mixed with papaya. SOOOOO nice. Not gonna lie the practicalities of eating a floating breakfast aren't great, we ended up taking a load of pics and then eating it in the pool but on the side of the pool. It's just something we thought we ought to do as it's something that Bali is known for. We can tick that one off now.
Once we'd had our breakfast we headed back to our room to pack our cases so that we were ready for checkout after our massages.
We took a few pics in the paddy fields on the way and also took some of the 'offerings' that every house of shop leaves outside it's entrance daily. These are offerings to the gods and also to the darkness to protect those inside.
We walked up to Lily's and Layla grabbed a quick drink before we headed in.
Once we got there we were escorted to a large building at the back where there were two massage beds side by side. We would both have our facials first. The facial was different than any I've had before. Not sure that cleaning products off your face with a cold flannel is really the done thing in most places but for £6 I guess we couldn't complain. After rubbing several different products into the face in a kind of exfoliating style and cleaning off they left us with a peal-off mask on and cold cotton pads on our eyes for a bit. When they returned they peeled off the mask and gave us another wipe over and then finished with what I'm guessing was moisturiser.
After the 'facial' it was time for Layla to leave for her mani-pedi and me to have my massage. I don't think they were very trained in massage etc I think they just knew some basics. Some of the things they did were a bit uncomfortable like just pulling at your joints and bending your feet which felt like the wrong way. After my treatment, I had a shower and met Layla in reception.
The minute I walked out her face was a picture, she was fuming. She said "it's a good job you weren't here with me you'd of hated it". She had not been impressed with the pedi as the girl kept going over the same bit of polish and dragging it all. In the end she told her to remove it and showed her how to apply polish in one stroke at a time so you don't go over the same but until it dries. This seemingly was a revelation to the therapist lol.
Anyway, we paid and left (no tip) and Layla went to get food for us both while I went to check us out of our room ready for pick up. The hotel was so good they collected our bags from the room for us and brought us glasses of water while we waited for our driver. Once it had gone past the pick up time the receptionist rang the resort for us as the number they gave us for the driver didn't work.
Our driver eventually picked us up and we set off on a 3 hour-ish drive to The North Bali Reef Conservation Project. The rain storms came and went during the journey which seems to be the norm.
We eventually arrived at our destination down a dirt road and were met by Kyle and the team and shown to our room. Luckily for me and Layla had a tree house-type room to ourselves. Perfect not having to share with a load of others. Our camp was literally on the beach so will be great for having a morning swim etc.
After we'd put our stuff in our room and grabbed a drink it was time for dinner. The food was lovely , you helped yourself and there was a choice of salad, rice, noodles, satay chicken and what looked like fried battered fish but turned out to be a meat substitute called tempah made from Soy beans, it was lovely.
During the meal and it felt lie the first night in the big brother house as everyone was asking you the same questions, name, where you are from, have you been somewhere befoe here, how long have you been diving etc. A young lad called Josh gave us some info about how the weeks go etc but we will get a full briefing tomorrow from Kyle. After dinner we walked upto the main road to the "supermarket" for loo roll (you have to bring your own, so top tip if you stay somewhere else first bring a roll for your first day ;-) ). We then both had an outdoor shower (really nice and refreshing) and then decided to hit the sack.
Looks fab enjoying the read ! please keep writing
