Drove straight through from Emu Park to Rainbow Beach as we had a pretty clear run. Just made a couple of stop offs to get Macdonalds and then some crisp and drinks later.
We got to the hostel and it looked pretty nice and quite busy. Sadly they said they didn’t have our reservation, as it had been booked quite late with hostelbookers. They said they were full but eventually managed to put us in a dorm round the back for the first night and told us we would have to swap rooms tomorrow. That wasn’t a problem as long as we had a room we didn’t really mind.
Checked in and then dumped our stuff and went for a look around the resort. It was pretty small so there wasn’t much to see apart from the beach and a few shops. By the time we got back it was about 7pm so we had a quick shower and changed then went for dinner.
The set-up was really weird as the kitchen everyone can use was in an open plan area near the bar and near the food serving hatch for the hostel meals. It seemed really busy with people trying to cook their own stuff on just two small cookers. We decided to take the easy route and just have a $10 meal from behind the bar. We both went for steak with Diane sauce, chips and salad. After we’d eaten we moved over to the bar area as it’s always easier to get chatting to people there. Kieran the bar man sorted us out with jugs of cider instead of pints as it was cheaper during happy hour.
During the course of the night I mentioned to Kieran that I still hadn’t managed to go to a beach at night and toast marshmallows round a fire. He said he would soon fix that and would see who wanted to go to the each after they finish and make a fire.
After last orders a group of us went down to the beach, which was only 5 minutes away. Sam had gone to bed as she didn’t fancy the beach party thing but there was about 8 of us. Two Canadian girls who we’d met at the bar, a group of cockney lads and also some Ozzy guys. We managed to get a small fire burning in no time and I handed our the marshmallows and sticks that Sam had bought for me when she knew I wanted to do it. Kieran had given me a box of red wine to take with us too. It was one of them with a foil bag inside and a tap so I dished out the red wine and coke and we had ourselves a beach party lol.
Got to bed at about 4am I think.
