We all got up at 6am as normal so we could get our stuff together and get the flock out of here. We weren’t sure what the situe would be with breakfast so we decided not to give Harry the pleasure of telling us we couldn’t have any if we weren’t working and just packed up the car. We said our goodbye’s and Harry to the chance to have one last dig about my comments in the guest book. He said “thanks for all your help and I’m sorry about all the weeding and crusher dust part but we don’t normally do them for months its just unfortunate that it all needed doing at once” WHATEVER! That doesn’t explain why Saskia had the monopoly on the Kangaroo feeding jos. I just responded with a “no worries” as I couldn’t be bothered with it all.
We set off on our merry way and a sign of relief swept over the car as we closed the gates behind us. Yeah good look with getting everything done with just you and Saskia Harry!
We made a stop off in town to fill the car with petrol and get some breakfast from the local bakery. Once full we set off to Cairns.
The journey flew by (well I slept through it so it would lol). We had booked into the Cairns City Backpackers as I knew it and so it was easy to sort out and get to from the centre of Cairns.
We checked into our 4 bed dorm and the 4th bed appeared in use but the person must of already left for the day when we arrived as it was just before lunch time. The room was on the 2nd floor (its only a two storey place) and had its own shower. There was also toilets and showers on the landing and we were next to the kitchen.
The first thing we all did was get a ticket for the internet and upload our pictures and blogs to try and get up to date. I managed to get hold of Sam from work (ex FC) and we arranged to meet up at the Woolshed which was round the corner and on the street where she was staying at some womens hostel. We had just got in the queue when Sam arrived so we all went in together. It was very busy as usual because a lot of backpackers did like ours and gave you a vouchers for a free dinner there. The choice was very limited but it was okay for free. You could have chilli n rice, spaghetti bolognaise or veggie pasta thing. We all went for spag bol and it was pretty tasty surprisingly. We had to stand up at a shelf thing at first as it was very busy but then one of the waiters found us a booth that ad come free so we claimed that for the night.
It was buy one get one free from 8-9pm and then again from 10-11pm so we made the 9pm round last us until 10pm before we bought another round ;-)
It was nice catching up with Sam again and hearing her stories. She did a skydive this morning and loved it, I don’t think I have heard anyone say they didn’t like it.
Had a reasonably early night as tonight was just a trial run we were only going for food originally and plan on going out properly to some bars etc tomorrow night.
