Around the World Trip - Day 66 - 8th March 2009 – Ravenshoe Wildlife Sanctuary

We had breakfast at 6:30am as usual and then we all fed and watered the animals. The 3 musketeers did most of the work and Saskia just waddled around like she does huffing and puffing and doing very little.

Straight after feeding Harry and co go the van and the 3 musketeers got into Geraldine (the girls car as it was to be known). We followed Harry in the Scubby van to the market, which was only about 10 minutes away and wasn’t a very big market compared to the one I went to with Warwick (maybe the rain put some of the stall holders off).

Karin had worn an eagles nest T-shirt and Harry had brought some raffle tickets for the easter raffle they were doing. He left the tickets in the car so needless to say sold none. We had a walk around the stalls and Harry did his rounds talking to everyone and saying how “RIDICULOUS” (that’s his catchphrase) the whole thing was with the court case and the rabbit situation. After we’d gone round the whole market (with Saskia in toe being a bit friendly for some strange reason) Harry sprung the line…”Karin has just told me she has to get back to feed the Kangaroos so can I leave you the raffle tickets to sell”. With that he handed us the raffle ticket and collection box together with a poster detailing the prizes. SOOO that was his plan, to leave us to do the work, hence the separate car thing. He’s a right crafty all git that man, there’s always a motive behind his madness, he must think I’m stupid

Anyway we were just glad to be out in the sun and wandering round the market rather than back at his doing work so it wasn’t really a punishment. We sold $50 worth of tickets at $1 a ticket as I used Leti with her French accent to do the talking. People listen to someone with an accent as they have to concentrate to understand ;-) I ain’t daft lol.

After we sold out tickets we went for a drive to Millstream falls, which was on the way back. We got back to Eagles Nest just before lunch so we wouldn’t have to carry on working or anything. Harry made us sandwiches for lunch and for the first time we managed to eat everything (which he did comment on lol).

After lunch we went to the swimming hole round the corner as it was a really hot day. The walk seemed to take for ages and when we got there the water didn’t look very clear but we decided to go in it anyway. It was very cold but felt refreshing. It just was a bit dodgy not being able to see the bottom and what was in the water. We’d seen on the news various stories about Crocs being in different waters because of floods so we kinda kept one eye on croc watch while we were swimming lol.

When we got back we all needed a shower as the water smelt minging in the swimming hole and we only noticed when we dried ourselves and smelt out towels lol. Harry couldn’t really moan about the water this time after the amount of rain we’d had. While I was tidying up after the shower a baby Kangaroo wandered into my caravan and had a look around timidly but I just left it to it so I wouldn’t scare it off.

Usual routine at night, TV then bed, nothing exciting.
