Around the World Trip - Day 63 - 5th March 2009 – Ravenshoe Wildlife Sanctuary

After breakfast I got on with the watering of the animals. I started to do some of Saskia’s feeding at the same time as it made sense while I was already in there. I asked Harry to let Saskia know but I think he thought I was saying it as though she had missed them or something. He suddenly chirped up about how I had missed one of the birds waters yesterday. I was fooking livid, as I had been told from the off that we didn’t do the birds just Harry did it (by Saskia). I explained that I was told that he and Karin did the big birds and that I had just been watering some of them when I’d noticed they were empty and thought I was doing him a favour. He later came back (after obviously checking) and said that Karin had even told me their was a water tap over by the big birds for all the raptors. YES there is but I thought that was just FYI, just like I have been told there are mice and rats to feed to the snakes and birds but that doesn’t mean I get to feed them.

Took down a wall of the old tool shed and moved it into what is to be the new tool shed. Harry then started to show how to hang all the tools then said he’d just leave me to it. He probably saw the look on my face as if to say “yes I can organise tools thanks”.

Carried on spreading the gravel around one of the drives. There is a hell of a lot of paths etc to cover as its 5 acres of land. Hopefully we’ll get it finished though before I go.

Harry moaned about the girls saying its taken them 4 days to do something that took the Irish girl one morning. She can’t have done as good a job though as it’s spotless when I looked. He said that Flo is the slower of the two and that they will be in for a shock if they try to get a job in Oz as it’s hard work. I do think they work hard and tried telling him but he was having none of it. He just seems like a big bully and keeps picking on Flo in his own little way. Like making jokes with her that she clearly doesn’t understand and that end up being at her expense when he gets wound up cos she doesn’t know what he means.

In the afternoon Harry told me to help Saskia so I followed her to the van where she started unloading some stuff. I asked her if the bread was for the birds and she said “no” and walked off. When she came back I asked (with sign language) what she wanted me to do, she said “wait” and walked off. She gave a tub of veg peelings and pointed to an empty bucket which I took to mean “fill that” so I did then waited again but she just seemed to get on with stuff and not bother telling me what she wanted doing so I thought stuff this for a game of soldiers and went and carried on with the gravel spreading.

Later Harry came to find me and said that Saskia had just been crying as nobody was helping her with the van and when she went to ask the girls they were sat down doing nothing. GGGRRRRR. I explained to him that Id asked her what I could do 4 times and in the end I gave up and thought I would be better doing something rather than doing nothing. I’m really growing tired of the mute that is Saskia and Happy Harry and his strops. Thank god I only have to bare it out a few more days.

Dinner was beef schnitzel with the warm potato s

alad thing. Harry offered us cake after but we were all pretty full at that point (as he constantly tells you to eat more and not leave food in the serving bowls) so said we were okay at the moment. “Hhhmm more for us then” was his reply and then he went to bed. I can’t believe that the man who I met when I first arrived who was all full of “don’t worry”, “life has its own plan” and all laid back is now Mr Strop. I keep excusing it and putting it down to the fact that he has his court case coming up but all the more reason to want people on your side I would of thought.

TV caravan for an hour or so then it was off to bed.
