Day 25 - Time
It’s quite apt that Time was the these today as I spent most of the day looking at the clock. Firstly waiting on hold to get hold of the vets for Bonnie, only to be told if I wanted her to be seen this week I would have to ring back at 8:30am tomorrow morning.
Attempted to go to A&E at lunchtime but there wasn’t even anywhere to park so we gave it up as a bad job as I knew that would be an indication of how busy it would be in the hospital. Tried to go to the walk-in centre so I wasn’t wasting their time but when we got there it had signs up saying it was no longer there and the options were Tameside or Rochdale. We just came back home and I said we could try again at tea time.
Another clock-watching exercise once I got to A&E. Arrived at 6:30pm so to avoid rush hour traffic. Managed to find a parking space and after checking in at reception, we were sent round to the Urgent Treatment Section. explained symptoms to the UTS receptionist who promptly handed me a small pot to pee in (I can’t say I’ve not got a pot to piss in now lol). Got through the triage relatively quickly (30 mins) and they took my obs and literally took the poss then sent me back out to wait.
About an hour later I was called back so they could take bloods, then back to wait again. While I was waiting a nurse came and change the stats on the board to show that wait time to see a doctor would be 5-5 1/2 hour. Kirsty went out in search of a sandwich for us both as it would probably be closer to midnight before I got seen.
While we were waiting, me and Kirsty enjoyed a spot of people watching cos there are always some characters in any kind of waiting room. I got chatting with Stoma Stella, while Kirsty was outside having a cig. I don't know what she was actually called but she told me all about her stoma and how it was really inflamed and sore she wanted it reversed etc. She'd been there since 12pm and was just waiting for a bed, bless her.
Then we had moaner her arrived on a stretcher, the nurse kept trying to sit her up to give her some pain relief but every time she went near her she would yell out in pain. The nurse kept saying "I've not touched the bed yet". In the end she gave up and said "I'll leave the tablets her for you to take when yer ready" LOL.
When I finally got to see the doctor he lay me down on the ned and examined my stomach pressing it in various places and asking about my bowel movements. He asked if I had allergies and I confirmed I was allergic to Penicillin, even though I have no idea what happens. When he asked I said, "I think it makes me burst out into show tunes but I couldn't swear to it". After feeling about my stomach he suggested I go for an X-ray so he could get s proper look.
Just after midnight, the doctor called me back in to give me the results of my X-ray and explained that I had "compacted feces in my colon which was causing a blockage and that's why it was painful (constipation basically). He gave me a prescription for 2 different products that should help move things along but I'd have to pick them up in the morning. Kirsty has been sitting with me all night bless her, I told her she could have gone home if she wanted but she wouldn't hear of it.
To be honest I was just relieved it was nothing more sinister than that and would be glad to take whatever medicine he gave me just to stop the pain. Soon as we got home we both went straight to bed, I took a Senacot as soon as I got in though as I might as well kick things of sooner rather than later.
